Rethinking Sexual Assault: Big Thinking Lecture – November 29, 2016

On November 29, 2016, I had the honour of giving a “Big Thinking” lecture sponsored by the Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences.  The theme was “Do we need to rethink sexual assault law?”  In brief, my answer was “no” – the legislative framework is sound.  Instead, the lecture focussed on other problematic aspects of the criminal justice system.

The lecture took place in the Parliamentary Dining Room and was followed by a series of meetings with lawmakers, NGO’s and policy advisors.  It was a privilege to participate together with my co-panelist, Professor Elaine Craig. The response to our take on the current debate over sexual assault law was very gratifying.

A couple of weeks before, I was profiled in a piece in the Ottawa Citizen.  I also wrote an op ed.
