CTV Power Play Interview SCC Ruling in Daniels – Metis status

A link to my interview with CTV Power Play on Thursday, April 14 discussing the impact of the Daniels decision.  In the decision, the Supreme Court unanimously held that Metis peoples and non-status Indians are included within the exclusive authority of the federal government set out in section 91(24) of the Constitution Act, 1982. Section 91(24) mentions only “Indians, and Lands Reserved for Indians”.  In 1939, the Inuit were recognized as covered under this authority.  The Supreme Court confirmed what only made sense given the definition of “Aboriginal peoples” elsewhere in the Constitution includes all Indigenous peoples.

As always, the link may eventually disappear behind a paywall.
